Thank you from your winner, Simon

I would like to say a massive thank you to all of the schools that were involved with I’m a Scientist this November and especially to all of the students who asked questions in the Iodine Zone. I am amazed and delighted to have emerged as the winner and I will be passing on the prize money to my local primary school so that they can buy some new equipment for teaching science right across key stages 1 and 2.

When I started in I’m a Scientist I was not feeling very confident. I am a very busy, senior member of staff at the university and I was worried that I wouldn’t have the time to take part properly and I didn’t want to let you down. As it worked out, I’m a Scientist was actually a lot more interesting of some of the things I do in my job and right from the first batch of questions I was completely hooked. Your imagination, curiosity and amazing questions blew me away. You asked some things that really made me have to think very hard, and challenged me to not just think about my own area of science, but to go back to the basics of physics and chemistry too. Your questioning has inspired me and I will definitely be looking to get involved in more things like I’m a Scientist. Thank you for that.

I hope that my answers to your questions have been useful to you and that along the way I might have inspired some of you to go and find out more about the world of science. Maybe some of you will be the scientists of the future and you will go on to do great things. Whatever your interests are , follow your heart, study what you love and never let anyone tell you that you aren’t good enough to follow your dreams!
