My parents are in their 80s now and are immensely proud of what I have done. When I became a professor I gave something called an ‘Inaugural Lecture’ where I gave a talk about my career in science and my important discoveries. They were in the audience as guests of honour and had a great evening.

      Hi 13adyoung,

My parents are incredibly happy for me, especially my father who inspired me to become a Nuclear Scientist. They’re very interested in the work I do and always asking me questions about nuclear energy which it good.

My mam and dad are not very sciency at all (one works in a taxi office and the other drives a taxi!), but am pleased I am. They just want me to be happy, and if that is in science then that’s OK with them! My grandad is really interested in my work and always asks me to send him things I am doing! It is nice that someone is so supportive and interested!

      Hi 13adyoung!
Yes, my parents are very supportive of me being a scientist, but I think they would support me in whatever I do, as long as I enjoy it. I’m not sure they always know exactly what I am doing, but they are always interested to find out what I am working on.
Like Louise, my Grandad is also really supportive of my work and is always interested to hear what I am up to.
