      Mel3gill, that is a really interesting question, thank you.

      Believe it or not, it was a complete accident. As a young scientist finding work can be difficult and most people only get a job that lasts for 3 years and then they have to find another. I was at the end of one contract and desperate for work and managed to get a post investigating this subject. To be honest I did not believe in the idea at all but needed the money!! 😉

      About 3 months into the job I got the results back from my first experiment and I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. The idea wasn’t rubbish after all, it was the most amazing outcome I had ever seen. I got hooked on the idea, incredibly excited and I am still studying this problem 20 years later.
