      Great question!
Before babies are born their mothers have to eat very carefully to make sure that all of the organs grow and develop properly. A healthy diet that is rich in protein-containing foods (meat, eggs) and vitamins and minerals is really important. There is a vitamin called folic acid, which may be the most important thing of all to protect babies health. It cannot be eaten in enough amounts to meet the needs of the baby (unless mum can manage 10 portions of sprouts, or 8 portions of broccoli every day- yuk!), so pregnant women have to take it as a supplement pill.

After they are born babies should be breastfed for 6 months. Bottle feeding doesn’t give the best start in life and bottle fed babies are more likely to be obese (fat) and develop diabetes when they grow up.
