Great question! Nanotech is already in the markets – it’s used for so many things that we don’t even realise have nanotech in them! For example, your computer and your mobile phone wouldn’t be nearly so powerful or small and light without nanotech components!
There are also nanoparticles in other things such as cosmetics like makeup, and even in paint – different types of nanoparticles are what makes red paint look different from blue paint!
But I think there will be many more uses of nanotech that we still haven’t discover yet. I think one of the main areas that we will see nanotech being used more and more is in medicine – imagine if we could make nanobots (nano-robots) that could travel inside your body and cure disease on each individual cell! There would be no need for drugs with lots of horrible side effects.
Some scientists think the coming age will be the “age of nano” – we’ll see!
Yes hashim, as Susan says, we are surrounded by uses of nano tech already and the potential exciting uses in things like medicine are still to come. We live in an amazing age and I sometimes find it hard to think how the world might look in 20 years time.
